Garden Club of America

The Garden Club of America is an organization of over 18,000 members. The purpose of The Garden Club of America is "to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening, to share the advantages of association by means of educational meetings, conferences, correspondence, and publications, and to restore, improve, and protect the quality of the environment through educational programs and action in the fields of conservation and civic improvement."

The Garden Club of America website blooms anew, thanks to Colophon New Media. Founded in 1913, the Garden Club is a national leader in the fields of horticulture, conservation, and civic improvement. They have been a valued client since Colophon designed the Club’s previous website in 2010. That site included a public face as well as a secure Members section for a membership of approximately 20,000 garden enthusiasts across the U.S.

In 2014 Colophon redeveloped the Garden Club website. Using very specific custom tools, Colophon modernized their system to improve management of member data. Colophon also developed a complex eCommerce tool specifically designed to handle the Club’s unique requirements. A major advancement of the new site is a robust Events Registration tool for members in 200 affiliated clubs across America. Colophon also provides ongoing site support and site maintenance. The entire system is hosted on powerful server at a secure data center.

The new site offered the opportunity to streamline processes that had previously been spread across many platforms and administrative functions. Colophon consolidated these processes under one master administrator’s panel. Using Colophon’s proprietary Site Manager 4.0 content management system (CMS), the Garden Club processes eCommerce transactions internally within the CMS. Then the Club can produce live updates through the processor’s gateway so that all data and reports sync with bookkeeping.

A variety of other administrative tasks are also handled via the web system. Member data updates, awards nomination, committee organization, calendar announcements, the distribution of procedures, and many more critical organizational jobs are handed via the website. Jennifer Barnette the COO of the Garden Club of America said "90% of our business is now done via the website."
